Need help with Scrapland!

Hi!  I just started playing this through Gametap and am having a very hard time with the first flying mission.   I keep getting killed as I get close enough to shoot the fleas I think their names are.   Any advice? I think this game is going to be alot of fun but I am getting frustrated with the flying.   I don't want to give up too soon!  Please help!
