Ask American #1: the Mysterious Bloody House

by Lilith70 on September 19th, 2011 at 9:00 am

Wallghost asked this:

In the beta trailer, it shows a bloody house Alice is in. It appears to be Houndsditch Home.
Many members on the forum theorized that it could have been a playable-ending, or that the original idea for Alice 2 was that she would wake up from Wonderland multiple times (like in the final version of Alice2) in the scenes of murders that she would constantly be getting blamed for, or murders that she has commited (like Alice pushing Pris off the roof). What was your original intention for that scene? Was in indeed the original ending? I think it would have appeared after the asylum level.

American replies:

“That was meant to be Pris’ house and was originally planned as the start point for the entire game. The blood you see everywhere belongs to Pris. And yes, Alice was meant to black out then find herself surrounded by the horror you see in that video snip. There was an idea early on that Alice would find herself constantly on the run from the police and that wherever she went in the real world death and murder would follow. We ditched the overall idea for a number of reasons – mainly because it didn’t feel natural to have Alice jumping, swinging and fighting through the streets of London. We actually DID have her doing those things for a while – she could ledge walk and hang, climb and jump though London. There was also an issue of scope and time – it was enough to create all the action elements you see for Wonderland – we barely had time for that. To have added London in as well; we simply did not have enough time or a big enough budget.”

Check back next week for another “From the Horse’s Mouth” Ask American feature – and you can visit us at the forum to submit your own questions.

The rise of Akaneiro – concept art

by Lilith70 on September 5th, 2011 at 2:03 pm

As you know, we have many exciting things in development right now, and one of the titles that we’re especially proud of is Akaneiro.  You may recall that this is the title of our interactive iPad storybook, but that story is something of a foundational concept to the actual game.  “Akaneiro” means “Angry Red” – as I’m sure anyone would be after what Red went through herself – but our story takes on some interesting and fascinating angles that will surprise and delight.

You may have seen this piece released on our Facebook pages, our Wolf Lord Moroko:

As a treat for reading this blog, take a gander at this as well, the aspect of Bloodfang:

As addressed yesterday…

This is just a quick note that will hopefully stop the spamming.

Yes, we are aware that the image that was originally posted yesterday was based on a copyrighted image.  There was a mix-up in getting our art resources together, and that image was meant purely as a point of reference within the office, never meant to be released to the public.

You’ll notice that it’s no longer live.  Our sincerest apologies to the original artist, and we’ve instituted another layer of checks and balances to make sure it never happens again.

Thanks for your understanding!

More details on naming the game!

by Lilith70 on August 24th, 2011 at 12:53 pm

Help pick the name for out new game over on our Facebook page!  (Yes, you have to join the group to vote, I think.  It’s okay, we’re not inundators.)  Here are some of the specifics you should know about it:

  • It’s a brawling game.
  • It’s player-versus-player, either on teams or one-on-one.
  • The setting is an old-timey US/Western five & dime kinda toy store (we think, so far).
  • Your head gets bigger as your kill-number goes up.

Here are a few of the characters:

I nearly forgot to mention… there’s also prizes in it for you.  Of the people who voted for the winning name (pending approval by the Spicy Horse developers because who wants a stuffed ballot box for “Doodyheads-R-Us”), we’ll select a person randomly to receive an Alice Minimate (US and Canada only, please, the international shipping costs are crazy).  Not familiar?  Check this out:

Posted In: Alice: Madness Returns, Appearances and Events, Merchandise

Our merchandising friends over at Forbidden Planet have arranged a book signing event at their Megastore in London on October 8th, 2011, from 1pm to 2pm (or so).  So, for all of our UK and Euro fans who have been chomping at the bit, here’s your chance!

They made the announcement here on their website.  You can pre-order the “Art of Alice: Madness Returns” books there, or you can purchase them at the time of the event.

We’ll let you know more as it unfolds.  We’re so excited!
