Im concerned: ill be honest.

This director is responsible for films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Very Best of Cher and Janet Jackson. Is any else concerned that his creative vision wont twist this dark wonderland properly? Im afraid its going to turn into a thriller. That witty, dark and somewhat eerie dialogue will be replaced by dumb catch phrases and partially nude versions of alice. That the music will be replaced by tension-building tremelo strings rather than the sweet dark music that it was originally created with. When Hollywood picks up a game idea, it doesnt do the best job in the world of sticking with its original intentions …

Lets just hope it comes out alright- best of luck to you, Alice Film . Ill be keeping my eye on you …

I’m just hoping that it’ll be some good, all things considered about videogame movie adaptions.
I can just imagine all the parents groups who’ll be saying that the movie “perverted” the true Wonderland. Laughably, I can also imagine those same ignorant fools who’ll try to compare this movie with the Disney version (not that I have anything against the Disney one).

I just learned about this flipping through MTV. wow are they stupid, they said Geller would be playing the Queen and not Alice. Otherwise this looks to be awesome. Still one of my favorite games.

Not too crazy about SMG. She’s a decent actress, but she just doesn’t look the part. (And she’d also need to pull off the accent.) Still, I’ve got high hopes, and she is pretty adaptable, so I may be pleasently surprised . . .

What are your thoughts on the choice of director? I haven’t seen his remake of Texas Chainsaw, so I’m not familiar with his style. Alice is a very delicate balance of storytelling, reinvention and character, so I would hate to see it receive the kind of treatment many games do in Hollywood. A similar thing happened with Alan Moore’s From Hell - because it was a comic it was rather dumbed down into a run of the mill Jack the Ripper story, when it should have been more of a psychological study of the intent of killing and black magic. I hope Alice gets the treatment it deserves…

I’m just not very confident with Sara playing her. I’d rather have Mila, and I’d much, much, much rather have Tim Burton do the directing aside from his Corpse Bride movie, because he’s just that cool, but that’s just my opinion.
How will Sara look with dark hair and sound with a british accent, I wonder? o_o Better not skip over the accent ’cause that’d just be murder.

SARAH AS ALICE!! YOU COULDN’T ASK FOR ANYTHING BETTER!

Sarah will probably be okay, but my first two choices would have been Christina Ricci or Thora Birch. Direction I’d have definately gone for Tim Burton, Alexander Cuaron or David Fincher, but I’m sure it may be okay, even though I thought Texas Chainsaw was a pretty bad remake (but I didn’t really like the original anyway). I personally don’t see why American McGee couldn’t have opted to direct.

Anyway, Hopefully Walken plays the role as the Mad Hatter and Jim Carrey plays the Red King.

Alice has to be one of the most thought provoking well made most immersive games I have ever played as I sit here now playing it on nightmare for the 3rd time I read that at last, the film is going forward with SMG as Alice. This sounds awsome as was said before lets hope it has the same feel as the game does!

I can see the ideas brewing, and appreciate the comments within. True, Sarah isn’t everyone’s choice to play Alice, but then again, we can’t all expect to see the same actress playing our Alice. It’s as when we read the first book, from Mr. Carol, or when we first played the game from Mr. McGee. We ‘became’ Alice a little bit, each time we read of her adventures, or every time we slashed one of the card guards. We see Alice as we want to see her, but each of us view different characteristics of her.

I think Sarah has the ability of becoming Alice, and could play a good one. I can’t vouch for all her acting roles, but one of her earlier ones, in a show called “swans crossing” portrayed her as a confused and very dark girl. Lets see if she’s perfected this persona now that she’s grown up…

so are you going to be involved in the production at all? Besides you having created the game I mean. You should find out if there is any way that you will be allowed to at least have SOME input on the movie itself.

dammit, they better do it justice….i have played this game for years, and if they f it up, ill personally drive to everyones house and have ‘words’ with them. im not a big smg fan. if she winds up doing it, she better play the game and do it right. i would like to volunteer for any part you need filled in this movie *hint*hint*hint*. i haved hoped and dreamed that this masterpiece would make it to the big screen, and now it will. but as i said…..dammit, they better do it right.

You are going to do voice training with SMG right? Alice sounds like a young Judi Dench, and while I’m not expecting that I do expect her to sound English. Have her be Alice, not Buffy, or SMG, but Alice. Does that make sense? I’m kinda ranting a little, but I’m afraid this movie will be bad and I don’t want it to be. I want to like it. It won’t be hard to make it good really. Just prepare, like they did in Chicago. Um…and I know suggesting people to cast never works, but may I suggest Jason Flemyng for the Cheshire Cat? He has the right sort of cattish timbre and tone to his voice.

I’m excited. At least the casting drew weren’t byest to looks. If we cast on looks the movie would suck. I’m positive Christina Ricci is a great acctress but as for playing Alice, a sweet girl TURNED dark, I can’t see it working. SMG works because she can act innocent when nessacary. I think SMG will do a decent job as Alice, I must admit I agree that Tim Burton would have been a better choice and I personally think Natalie Portman would have been a better Alice. But I am a Buffy fan and I have high hopes for SMG and for this movie. It’s about time they quit talking about making this great game into a movie and actually did it!

I am ecstatic about the new Alice movie. YIPEE!! I am an avid Buffy fan but I SMG wasn’t exactly who I had in mind as Alice. I was thinking someone more like Kiera Knightley or Mena Suvari even Emily Browning. Oh Well, maybe SMG will suprise me with her incredible acting skills.

Will Alice end up mutilated?

We too are slightly alarmed. As already pointed out, the director-to-be (as of what we know now) is the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, your archetypal horror/slasher/thriller film with little merit and too much fornication. It seems he’s done very little directing, and if Alice is to flow in the same channel of what he’s already produced, it will indeed become cheesey, featuring blood, guts, and nudity just for the sake of blood, guts, and nudity. In other words, lots of STD-ridden teens will attend the movie for the sake of appearing “hardcore.”

We have a suggestion for the music - it’d be a really smart move to keep the score that Chris Vrenna churned up for the video game itself. It’s perfectly eerie, with a childhood-gone-awry feel to it.

Okay…now for the choice of actress. SMG is an actress, of course, and therefore versatile, but there seem to be a few (namely two that spring to mind immediately) others that fit the bill quite a bit…more…well, perfectly. Firstly, there’s Christina Ricci. In Sleepy Hollow, she appeared very childlike (but mature) and very disturbed, both of which are necessary elements of Alice’s character. Secondly, there’s Daveigh Chase, who actually is a young lady (a “child,” if you choose to take it that way) who pulled off a certain infamous, asylum-condemned, vengeful little girl; she was Samara Morgan in The Ring, which, I daresay, was slightly more successful (and worthy of praise) than The Grudge (which nearly everyone identified as a rip-off, already posing a psychological unwillingness to see a movie featuring an actress who was selected on her performance in the aforementioned rip-off).

We’re sorry to sound like we’ve taken too many pills of unhappiness; it’s mainly the fact that we have a deep, personal appreciation for American McGee’s wonderful version of Wonderland that is the game.

Oh, yeah…and the voice of the Cheshire Cat should definitely be the same person who voice-acted for the game…that was great.

I think an unknown actress would have been the more artistic choice, but this gives SMG a chance to expand her roles and her name will bring in the viewers. Let’s just hope that the feeling of the game comes through in the film. Good luck.

Oh god I hope the Movie doesn’t turn out like the Resident Evil movies, ’cause the people who made those movies dederved to be shot while hanged. Other than SMG, who’s going to be the voice of the Chesire Cat and the Rabbit? I think that the original voices would be best, ’cause there’ll be the sense of familierity with the gamers, and plus, the voices rock!

I was once a big Buffy fan, and I love SMG. I personally think she is a great choice, although I never though of her playing Alice before. I am also pleased with the choice of director. Marcus Nispel did a tremendous job on ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’. Although, when released on DVD, the directors commentary will be immensely boring…lol

I’m so happy that this video game is finally being turned into a movie. SMG isn’t who I imagined playing this part (I always thought she’d make an awesome queen of hearts), but Im sure that she will come through. I just hope you dye her hair and give her vivid green contacts. I hope not to see some bad adaptation ( as usual ), like mortal kombat, street fighter or resident evil…. Guellar is not bad, but it dosent depend on her, she will do what the director says. Dont forget the music and the CG, plus the history, I will wait and see.

I would love to see as much of the game in the movie as possible…I’d hate to see this become just another mindless slasher flick a la Wes Craven’s filmography. I think Annasophia Robb would make a great Alice. She looks cold, has amazing eyes, and unlike Sarah she isn’t far too old to play the role convincingly. Plus she isn’t too well known, having had only one big role (in the recent Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Violet Beauregarde).

while looking for an alice costume (not just any one, an american mcgee one, or one I could transform to work) I came across your website

I am very excited to find that a movie is being made of this wonderful creepy and interesting game. If for some reason Michelle Gellar can’t do the film (not likely) this is one part I would have loved to audition for - it’s rare now a days for characters to actually jump out at me as something I specificly want to audition for.

Anyhow, you are probably a busy person and I shall wasteno more time. G’lcuk with the proceedings of the film and good job on an interesting and well thought out game. I have to look into some of your other projects eventually.

I think it’s a great idea you are turnning American McGee’s Alice: DarkWonderland into a movie, but at the same time i think it is crucial that you choose the appropriate persons to play the roles. Alice is a character that withholds alot of background, personality, and spice. It is kindof funny that I find myself writing this when my intentions were to look for information on Alice, and trying to create a image, character for a Halloween contest I plan to attend.Maybe someone will catch me off gaurd, and the perfect repersentation of Alice will appear?¿

ok, so i played the game years ago. i got it for my birthday. didnt have the right video card, went out and got it that day fell inlove with the game. already inlove with the books, movies and so on even went as mcgees alice for halloween. love it. embrace it. when i found out there was a movie i was so happy. but sarah? i mean, i get it. im still…ok with it. the only problem that i would have is the fact that shes blonde. and i feel that in the expectations i have i might be disapointed. all the same its alice. and that is all that matters.

I am so excited about the movie! A little perturbed about the lagistics, but i am satisfied nonetheless that an ALICE is being made! I really really really DO HOPE that the creator will be working hand-in-hand with the director and people producing this piece of art. I’m beyond thrilled that Alice is going to be coming out!! I do think that Emily Browning (the little girl from Ghost Ship) would be a much better choice. She can do creepy and looks like Alice. SMG looks like she is in her mid-20s, not 18 years old and I don’t think she could pull it off. Also, the person who did the Chesire Cat voice in the game should be the Chesire Cat in the movie. His voice is awesome for the part.

Sarah Gellar will make an Ok Alice (i hope) but i think she should practice her english accent it sucked when i heard her doing an english accent in Buffy. I hope they get the sets right with the same look and feel which they had in the game. The chesire ctas voice was great in the game and i thought the things he said were cool they should try and get a few of those in the film.

Congratz!! Alice, in my opinion, was total mind candy. I went out and bought a brand new PC when Alice came out just so I could play it (glad I did) Hearing that it finally turned into a movie is even better news. Sarah M G is a great pick for the lead. (Although Clea Duvall would have worked too if you wanted a darker character)

Please don’t give up on Oz!!! I have been patiently awaiting the release of this game and I’m sure it will fall into place one of these days… With Wicked becoming a world hit, you’d think people would be more interested in the darker side of that which is Oz.

I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to do a fantastic job. As for the Cat, I too would love to see the video game voice talent do the same for the movie. If not, I vote Jeremy Irons or Jason Isaacs.

They’d better make the Queen and the Hatter absolutely terrifying.

I am really worried about this. I mean, don’t get me wrong I would LOVE to see Alice…DONE CORRECTLY! They’re probably going to have a soundtrack with Slipknot, Dimmu Borgir and metal like that and completely ignore the whole innocence of the movie. It’s the innocence that made the game and it will be the hard core that will ruin the movie. I just hope all goes well.

I think it is about time somebody finally recognized your awesome talents of twisted tales and morbid creatures. I only wish I could play the part of Alice but I’m just a mere college student taking pc animation, *sighs* Oh well. Good luck with the projects.

honestly, I’m a geller fan, so naturally i could rant about how she’s gonna make the movie great and all, but seriously, i wanna do that as much as ya’ll would want to listen

so, simply put, i think what with the awesmeness of the game (all hail the steampunk six million dollar doormouse! *if you do not get that reference, you have more of a life than me*) and the coolness of the source material, we may very well be commenting about the video game movie to buck the trend of horrible video game movies, we might be lucky enough for an average movie!

even if it’s as bad as the house of the dead movie, i’m still gonna see it in the theater, and who knows, maybe it’ll spark enough intrest in the game to warrent a next gen super beautiful update (hopefully with the cancelled multiplayer that nextgen mag reported about waaaaaay back in the day)

overall, this flocking rules, geller is a goddess, and i get to see the chesire cat get smushed again! here’s to hoping somebody smushes the whoppi goldberg miniseries version of the cat as well

I’m still trying to find out if there is a soundtrack to the videogame. the music is just so beautiful and i’m dying to put it on my ipod. please make sure that that same music os on the movie.

Just loved the game (possibly the best one i’ve ever played). Some doubts about the movie, hollywood tends to kill dreams, and alice is the definition of dreamland. Someone mentioned tim burton, yeap that would be just great, in a perfect world. Manson for the cat? Anthony Hopkins i’d say, anyways it’s all about budget and money. Just have to say (no harsh feelings), no movie is better than a crappy one. We love alice

they seem to have done ok with “Silent Hill”…i mean that was so like the game it almost came out cheesy…..but the effects were soooo freaky and i’m hoping this Nispel guy will think about who played the game from the beginning and how this should be an adult film, NOT marketed to WB watching high school kids! It needs to be made with the FANS in mind and NOT a dollar amount. As far as Gellar….i hope she kicks as much as as she did with Buffy, if not more…..we don’t need to see her cleavage…ALICE has none! K first off: The Game kicks ass we all know and agree with that. Silent Hill, they messed up, it should have been the Dad and the little girl, not her mom! Resident Evil and RE: Appoclyspe Sucked! They were not based on the games! In Resident Evil, you only saw a tiny part of the Mansion. And Jill V. should have been the main character, not Alice. Anyways, I hope they don’t screw this movie up, like they did the others, and a couple of nude shots would be nice, lol.

I really love the game I constantly get into trouble for playing it so much. I sincerely hope that when the movie is released that it does it complete and proper justice. It would be a travesty to see such an excellent game turned into such a horrid film

In regards to someone’s earlier comment: this movie should NOT be PG-13! It needs to be R because it’s too dark and mature (at least it should be) to be rated ortherwise.

I’m worried about Sarah… Period. But then again, she was allright in the grudge. And now that i think about it, don’t forget Stone Temple Pilots last single, “Sour Girl” where Gellar was the goth girl in the video. Maybe we just stereotyped her and cheerleader buffy. She might actually be good. In all the script matters the most though.

I hope that chesire keep the same voice as the game, he´s my favorite character. He needs the voice, and please take the soundtrack of “village of the doomed” into the film.

Well, I won’t be trusting Sarah until I get to see the movie, but they better make her talk with a credible english accent. It’s a part of the Alice in the game, as well as being disturbed and sarcastical.

I liked the director’s remake of the “TCM” and i thought it was pretty good, but this movie needs a lot more than pshycho people and canibalism. The movie has to be colorfull but dark, has to be sick and bizarre as hell. We need to see how strange wonderland is. I really hope they are not sacrificing anything from the game, that every stage and detail appears, as well as the character designs- but better.

An interesting part of the game are the weapons, so I hope they are making a good FX work with them. I can’t picture how the final outcome against the Queen of Hearts in her real shape will be.

AND I REALLY EXPECT not screwing up and merging the Queen of Hearts and the Red Queen as the same character, because they are not.

Wow. I remember playing the Alice game, and I thought it was fantastic. I remember thinking to myself, “this would be a great movie”. I hope they do.

A film of American McGee’s Alice will be fantastic but not as great as the game…

Isn’t she a bit…old for the part? No offense to her, of course! Great actress. Definately not what I would have expected, though..
An unknown would have been brilliant.
Though I am glad to see that the project seems to still be up and kicking.

coming from a fan of the game, book, past movies and author (lewis caroll) i say that keira knightly (pirates of the carribean, the jacket, domino) would make the best alice. anthony hopkins (silence of the lambs, hannible) would make the best voice for the cheshire cat. tilda swinton (constantine, chronicles of narnia) would make the best red queen. bill nighy (underworld, love actually) would be the best mad hatter. the caterpillar’s voice should be done by michael gambon (Sleepy hollow, the omen). the best dutchess would be pam farris (matilda, harry potter 3). the voice of the white rabbit would be best played by andrew chaikin (american mcgee’s alice). the voice of the griffin should be played by alan rickman. i’ve obviousley had plenty of time to think about this heh. but i need some feed-back.

Sarah Michelle Geller should do fine as Alice, remembering she has already played parts with dark hair, and can look seriously goth, which alice is, apart from her blue dress.

The movie should be made with the original game scriptwriters just to make sure the dark humour and sarcasm makes it into the movie.

I think SMG will be great in her part as Alice. She is always a very adaptable actress, you can give her any role and she’ll play it wonderfully. As of now her hair is black, I’ve seen photos. Plus she is pretty skinny and she can look very odd looking at times, which makes me believe that she’s perfect for the part.

Summer Glau from the firefly series and the serenity movie would have been a MUCH better choice…She has got the whole “disturbed chick” thing down!!!

OH Keira is THE ONE for this role. She’s got it, the accent, the looks… damn she was perfect for this.

i am extremly excited! but as others have said, I just hope they make the movie correctly. make it as twisted as possible!

While other actresses do come to mind in terms of goth, I think this is a great role for Sarah & she will pull it off. Good for her for taking on the challenge.

Emily Browning, Emmy Rossum, Keira Knightley or Natalie Portman for Alice.
I’ve seen a couple of episodes of buffy and SMG might be quite good. she is quite versitile and she does do a convining accent.
I’m going to be 15 next year so hopefully i’ll be able to see it!

I like the idea of SMG as Alice, although I do think she’s too old. I love the idea of Summer Glau–imagine her with a posh, creepy, English accent (not unlike mine I hasten to add for no reason!). Very cool, it would be.
Coincidentally, Lily Cole in Phantasmagoria is 18–seems the perfect age and looks suitable disturbed and yet innocence. Hmm, was it indeed coincidence???

I have been waiting years for this to come out…need the latest. Can’t wait to see Sarah on the screen again!

I gotta agree with some of you that Summer or Christina were my first picks. But hey, Sarah could pull it off. It’s about time this one hit the big screen! PLEEEZ, be even half as twisted as the game and this will be a true audience pleaser. And by all means, get Chris Vrenna involved in the foley and music trax!

Ooh, Summer Glau, now why didn’t I think of that? Mmmmmm, yes she would have made an AWESOME Alice. Ah well, I like SMG anyway. Itching for this damn movie to be out already dammit…

Finally, I saw someone suggest Emily Browning as Alice. I’m a FANATIC of this game & believe she could pull it off flawlessly. In response to the person who claimed that SMG would play the Red Queen…if you’ve beaten the game, you know that the Red Queen’s face appears as Alice’s own before the final battle. I personally think that Alan Rickman would do best as the voice of the Cheshire Cat, not the Griffin. This is all the input I have at the moment except to say that I will be devestated to see SMG get the part of Alice.

I was hoping they would get a younger actress rather than one that tries to remain 18… but I’m sure it will still be an awesome movie. I just hope I don’t have Buffy flash-backs while watching it, Sarah just doesn’t look like the kind of person who can fill Alice’s boots…. she’s better at looking afraid and running away from people in high heels. Every movie I see has a score of the same actors as the last one. Can’t wait to see it anyways.

Game was kickin’!

I’m not too impressed that they chose SMG to play Alice, she too old. I know movie makeup can work wonders but it’ll still be mutton dressed as lamb. I heard Mila Jovovich was in on it, but then declined. My guess is that she’d make the best Red Queen….

By the way, I can’t remember who he was, but the mad hatter from the first alice in wonderland movie should play the rabbit, and Alan Rickman should be the Mad Hatter…bwahahahaha!!!

Christina Ricci should be Alice. Alan Rickman should be the Chesire Cat. And Tim Burton should direct… But oh well, at least they’re making a movie.

Ok, McGee, I’m starting to think you’ve lost it. Your happy about Gellar being in it after “The Grudge”? WHY?!? The Grudge SUCKED! no offence ment toward Gellar personally, she’s had good parts, but not the grudge….. and whats with this grudge 2 that comes out friday….. NO! The Grudge is a terrible american version of Ju-On. but McGee, good luck, and even if the movie sucks….. as a huge fan of American McGee’s Alice (Game) I will be there opening night. (Maybe even try to sneak into the premier….) And I agree with the Alan Rickman Mad Hatter Comment. He just suits the part soooo well.

PS. The Game gets 20 stars out of 5. It powns all others! I beat it in a week no cheats, or anything, Keep the movie as FUCKED UP as possible, Keep the fans in mind, we should count for something. (And the scene about the book being like a puzzle box or stubborn tupaware tap it…..*::THUD::* “YOU CALL THAT A TAP?!?!” should be in the movie, no if’s and’s or but’s.”

I think Sarah will make a good alice, I really cant wait for this film to be made, i am so fed up of every film nowadays being a comedy and/or Cartoon.
I want this to be what it should a heart pumping horror! I hope they dnt go along the lines of Buffy and turn it into a horror that would be ruining a great potential film

It is true it should be TIM BURTON the director and Sarah well i like her but i think there are better options. But still I love the game so I will see the movie and them give my opinion.

dood, get Chris Vrenna to do some foleying with his musicboxes again. one of the songs with his music box was all echo-y and it was soooooo fitting for this kind of movie. GET CHRIS VRENNA!! du meine gute, waiting for this movie is UNBEARABLE!! I CANT WAIT!!!

I still hold w/ my previous comment. Emily Browning should play Alice & Alan Rickman should be the voice of The Cheshire Cat. I’m trying to have faith, I really am…but as things go w/ Hollywood I foresee it being destroyed: Gellar as Alice, Tom Cruise as The Mad Hatter, Justin Timberlake and some other washed up teen idol as Tweedle Dee & Dum, Amy Smart as The Duchess…yes, I’m being overtly sarcastic here. Fingers crossed, I guess I’m just pissed over the whole SMG as Alice thing…oh, & it should definately be directed by Burton, I agree w/ everyone who said that.

Sarah MG is too much of a public figure such as tom cruise. Alice should be played by an unknown actress to allow the audience to be focusing on her performance. If it were Sarah then some will be thinking Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Scooby Doo or the Grudge. No offense to Sarah but there are way better actors to play Alice. You can only do this movie once, so do justice to this movie or it will turn out to be like those other video game movies that did not do too well (Resident Evil, Doom, Mortal Kombat, etc.). “The best treasures can be found under a pile of garbage, do not just skim over it and pick up whatever seems the best.” -Ranon

Tim Burton could make this movie a good one

I’m still holding on to hope that this will see the light of day. American McGee’s Alice is one of my most memorable games, and I have quite a few of them. The entire thing came together and set a mood unlike any other game I’ve played before or since. I do think it’s a mistake to put Sarah Michelle Gellar in the role as alice. She neither looks, sounds or acts like the character from the game. Natalie Portman is a dead ringer for the character and would work out prefectly. I’m praying the script doesnt suck and the director doesnt have his head up his ass because this could be a masterpiece if they follow the movie as close to the game as possible and leave out any corny one liners and that silly teenage sassiness thats in every single movie made lately.

OMG Sarah I think is an o.k. actress but what the heck! how old is she like probobly in her 20’s and like for alice this kid is like 14-16 id believe. Why not have it fair and host auditions OR ATLEAST MAKE MORE GIRL PARTS!
