One Million

An anonymous source at Electronic Arts just informed me that Alice has passed the 1 million units sold mark. Very cool. I wonder what would have happened if there had been a PS2 version…

  1. That has to be just the coolest thing evar… does that mean it was *only* available on PC?

  2. thats very good, because alice is one of the best designed games ever,in
every related case (level, weapons, characters, objects, locations,
clothes, weapons, etc.etc.etc.), with the best soundtrack in game
(except mafia), cool sounds, gameplay(experience) and story. love it.
hope there will be some aftermath (plz!), but not absolutely with ea ;)

  4. That’s so awesome, I loved alice and I’m glad it’s still getting decent exposure, even after being out for a couple of years. People (inclding myself) are still eating it up. We should now go brainwash young children! BWAHAHA!
[Alice on Xbox would be awesome]

  6. I tell all my friends to buy Alice. I was just preaching to someone today. It’s a great game (the only computer one I play) :D I can’t wait to play Oz.

  7. Alice on a ps2 would have sold even more. There’s still time! :-p

  8. An Alice console version would definetly be a great idea. I don’t know why EA didn’t make one. It would have been fairly simple.
What would be awesome is an updated version of Alice, with higher quality graphics (even though a lot of it still holds up today), more weapons, and additional levels. But of course who will they turn to for designing that? :(

  9. I know a bunch of people who never heard of Alice game. o_O
If there was a PS2 version of it… well.. it would be a bigger sucess!!! And perhaps we’d have the movie/cg movie! *cries*

  10. I visited this site and saw this post just after I put on a very cool remake of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” made by David Diebold. I guess I just had Alice on the brain today. I didn’t think EA was tracking Alice anymore, since there is no longer any mention of the game at all on their website. Now I am off to play.

  11. Alice is the best viveo I’ve ever played, I’ve been so spoiled by it that, as I use is as a guage to compair all other games. I’m left with nothing to play. This has been my state for years now. I’ve played Alice over and over. Help! What else is there?

  12. I’m sure it will take less than this previous 5 years for ALICE to reach 2 million copies sold. Mark my words.

  13. Happy to have been one of that million. Alice was a truly unique game worth every penny I paid, despite one really unfun boss battle. My hat’s off to you.

  14. Huzzah! Good to hear. Alice was truly amazing (I played it through 3 times, once on hard difficulty, once on Nightmare but got stuck on Mystifying Madness, and again to actually complete it on Nightmare).

Loved the game, but felt it could have used a little more dialogue (the Mad Hatter seemed too much of a walk-on role) and a chance to upgrade the weaker weapons so they were more useful later on. Ah well, it was lots of fun anyway, and one of the two games actually to get into my dreams as well as my mind (The other one was Silent Hill 3).

  17. I have been a gamer since the Atari 26oo and in my opinion Alice is the best single-player game of all time on any platform. Alice provided me with such an involved and unforgettable gaming experience that I still scavenge through search engines hoping for any updates (which is how I got here :). Although I know this will probably never happen, being a daily Alice gamer I have to say my only 3 wishes for the Alice game would be

    1. Improved Graphics Patch (for our fast new hardware since Alice’s release)
    2. Multiplayer Capability Patch (using the Q3 engine and all, would be cool:)
    3. A port to the Sony PSP (Alice would rock on a PSP! Portable Alice O_o )

Well there is my 2 cents, thanks for listening.

  18. Incredible…I loved Alice when I was first introduced to it, and I’m certain that if it received a platform release, its sales would be incredible!

  19. A console version of Alice would be perhaps the most awesome thing in the world (and I might just be able to get my hands on a copy that way…I’m too young to buy M-rated games myself, my parents won’t let me play M-rated games, and my computer, which is the only computer with the one of the few OS’s Alice will play on in my house, could never handle Alice. If it came out for a console I could probably trick a relative into buying it for me and then keep it at their house.) It’s such a shame that by the time I’ll actually be old enough to buy and be allowed to play Alice, Windows 95/98 will be a thing of the past and no computer will be able to run Alice. *le sigh* If only I was seventeen instead of fourteen.

  23. I love this game very much even though it was made 5 years ago, after I have played those games that were made in recent years, with advanced graphical effects, etc. Its concepts are very unique, and I am also greatly impressed by the game’s music, which are very good. I also agree that if this game was also made for PS2 or Xbox, the number will be even higher as the problems with pirated PC games. Although for other games that were not in the same style as Alice’s are also great, I hope that American you can continue your series of ‘twisted tales’, such as Grimm and Oz which were long told to be produced. I also think that maybe you can show this evidence(>1 million) to the game developers so that they will consider making these games possible.

  25. If Alice Comes To PS2. I’ll Deffinetly Be First In Line To Buy It. This Game Was SOOOOOOOOO Awsome. Thanx For Makin It. I Hear It Might Be A Movie As Well. That’s Flippin Awsome. I Can’t Wait.

  26. Hmm, I’d love to see it as a console release. My computer is too old and inefficient for it to be any good for gaming of any sort. So, I’ve never actually played Alice, but I’ve read about three walkthroughs and countless fanfictions, I’ve seen loads of artwork, and I know what a wonderful game it must be (pun utterly unintended).

If Alice was released on a console, I’d actually get to play it. Plus the sale figures would be utterly phenomonal!!! But it’d probably need to be revamped graphics wise and mechanics wise as the new consoles Revoltion, XBOX 360 and PS3 are coming out between now and 2007 and their capabailities are unbvelievable. Think about it, Alice standing there, hair blowing from a light breeze, dress covered in totally realistic blood stains, with the new consoles it’d probably be so realistic YOU COULD HEAR HER PANTING FROM EXHAUSTION.

With all of the original’s great gameplay, a few extra weapons, another level or two (maybe weave in an extra little plot device and new footage/dialogue to encourage those who bought the original to look at the new version) plus the amazing graphical and gameplay capabilities of the next-gen consoles, this could be THE BEST VIDEOGAME EVER!

PLEASE EA, LISTEN TO THE MILLION PEOPLE WHO’VE BOUGHT AND LOVED THE GAME, REMAKE IT SO THAT EVERYONE CAN EJOY IT!!!

  33. Awesome game! One of the best i have ever played. A patch would be awesome, and if you are gonna bring it to a console, bring it to PS2, they’re leading the video game console wars so far, and Xbox is a poser. >:(

  34. I just bought Alice today after reading IGDA columnist Matthew Sakey’s praise of it. The sheer ambition of this concept equals that of video gaming itself!

  35. i think that Alice would have sold more is it were to be ported onto a consol… actually i know for a fact it would. the game on the pc was a great game very well done BUT not alot of people have a fast enough computer to play the game without the lagging. if it were ported to a consol and it was advertized i would bet that you would sell double that if it were properly advertised. but hey there is always a future right? (hint hint)

  36. Everyone who wants to make a remake/console version of Alice should go to the EA headquarters (or whatever) and *itch them until they make a console version of Alice.

  37. Alice was just beautiful. I get emotional about it. And my desire to play the game made me read the two excellent, wonderful Carroll books before hand.
I’d certainly by a PS2 port, but I have to be Honest: after all this time, to sell well wouldn’t you need to really push the game in advertising? Do you think EA would do this? Actually, maybe after the movie…

  41. Honestly, “Alice” is just one of those cult phenomenon’s, where its fan base grows and grows. A similar example that comes to mind is the film Donnie Darko. Anyways, if this game was slightly revamped in the graphics department and the controls were tweaked to suit the consoles, I definitely think word of mouth would sell this game, just like it has for the PC version. One of my favourite games. But the gaming industry is tough, so I can only dream that Alice gets remade for the console, perhaps even a sequel on consoles.

  42. Great to hear about the 1,000,000 mark. how come it was never released on PS2. Probably the best game in a LONG time. It was trude to the story, not just the story, but the tone of AIW and TTLG. They were DARK stories. PLS PLS PLS PLS release for PS2. Would sell like wildfire!!

  43. Dear McGee!
Thank you for the best game I ever played. Alice impressed me and touched my soul, it was so fun (when I was going to sleep, I couldn’t wait for the morning to play Alice). I’m very sad because Alice II will not be released. Alice is more than yust a game, it becamed a legend for plenty of people! It will always stay in my hart. Amazing characters, beautiful music, wonderful environment… It’s shame that a lot of people never heard about Alice game. I borroved American McGee’s Alice game in local childrens library few years ago. I live in a small town in Croatia and I’m 18 years old. Now I have pirated version but now I’m saving the money to buy original. Please release Alice II, I will buy it, I promise! (I must confess that I’m disappointment with your other games, I probably expected too much because of Alice but I hope OZ will be more like Alice). Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! :)

  44. You should so make a PS2 version. It would get you out to a whole new demographic. You could make it when the movie comes out.

    Posted by Jeremy | August 12, 2005, 4:34 am
  45. Congrats. Hopefully they will release a console version for the PS2 when the movie comes out. I doubt they could pass up a tie-in like that, especially since it will be cheaper than making a new game from scratch (they just have to port).

  47. I live in Russia, and I didn’t know, that this game existed.”Alice in Wonderland” was my favourite book, and when I saw this game, I aws really glad. But after 1 time of playing, I went mad. It’s hard to explain, but the only thing I can say, it’s like drugs for me.After my first game, I was lying in my bed and I was thinking like Alice in game, but in real life.I couldn’t stop playing, because it treated me if I had a bad mood or I just fekt bad.I know, you can think whatever you want, even that I mad. It’s true.A normal person can’t think this way. Most of the people think that it just a way to have some fun.Yeah, I thought like this, too.I thought, that it’s a funny game.(n my class games with violence are very popular.)But now this “funny” game became my grudge. There bis a disease in me, but I don’t want to be treated, because myparents are paranoics, they will send me to a hospital, to psyhologist. They will think that I’m mad.I am mad, but it’s so cool to feel this feeling, while you’re playing…It’s scary, but so cute…Like a drug.I see more in “Alice”, than other people see.Only a genious could give a birth to a such a strange, bold and beatiful, unreal character.I’m sorry that I sais so much strange, but this is my opinion and I want people to know, what am I thinking.
