After several wonderful days anchored at Yacht Haven on Phuket, I sail south. My hope is that I’ll reach Racha (island) but whether I can get there will depend on wind and waves. The day starts off with near-perfect conditions, but the further south I travel the more intense things become. Ultimately, I have to abandon plans to reach Racha. Instead, I take shelter at Mai Thon.
The influence of weather in the life of a sailor cannot be overstated. Once aboard the boat, weather plays a role in almost every decision. Where’s the wind coming from? How strong will it be? And what sort of sea state (waves) will it create? Knowing these things we can attempt to make plans for when and where we sail.
Of course, things don’t always go to plan 😉
