Decision Coin “Final” Design

Dear Insane Children,

Alex sent the “final” version of the Decision Coin to me this morning…

Looking awesome!

We’re sending this to the workshop for a sample. Should have something to share with you in a week or two.

Once we have the first sample we can do another round of Crowd Design for any final changes.

After that, we’ll need to decide on the best way to distribute these to everyone.

Is everyone happy with the text we went with? Any other feedback?

The Fresh Prints of Shanghai

Dear Insane Children,

Font Lord here with a teeny tiny bit of info about the current crop of prints and what it means for you   🙂

At the very top of this post, you can see “Londerland” by Omri Koresh.
A very popular image that was requested by many of you to be one of our Patreon prints.
Your wish is our command.

All those people who paid $75 this month will be getting this print (and yes, it’s also going to become an option for the 3x$35 tier people too)
The email for the 3x$35 people will be sent a little later this week.

“But what’s the print for next month?!” I hear you cry.
(Those people charged at the beginning of January)

That’ll be “Holding The Moon” by Joey Zeng.

Amazing stuff, right?

Also on the topic of prints, sorry to say that we are a little behind on the sending of prints.
It’s crazy busy these days.

We promise we won’t forget you but if you are still waiting on The Watcher, can you please wait another couple of weeks before poking us about a tracking link   🙂
Thanks.

So, I wonder, what kinds of prints do you like the best. Help us select the kinds of art prints we offer in the future…
Do you like the big Alice portraits (Looking in the Shadows, Off With Her Head)

Or are you more of a Wonderlandscape kinda person? (Denial, Tea Port)

Maybe you like more stylized prints such as Alex‘s Chaos series?

Sound off in the comments and we’ll see what we can do going forwards into 2021   🙂

Hope you’re all staying snuggly and warm where you are (if it’s cold)
I’ve broke out the thermal undies and electric blanket here at Font Manor.
VERY cozy!!

– Cheers

Coin Design – Beautiful Detail (and Crowd Design)

Dear Insane Children,

Alex is an artist of many talents – for example, he’s a wizard with AI design layouts, a meticulous project manager, and an expert on the fine details of commercial printing. Each of these things requires attention to detail at a very high level – and the features of his detail-oriented brain really come into focus when he sets his (digital) pen to work on vector designs for our products and project.

Case in point: His latest iteration on The Decision Coin (main image, above).

For those who might have missed the previous post in which this was mentioned:

We’re crowd designing a large format (50mm) commemorative metal Decision Coin to mark 3 years of effort towards Alice: Asylum and the passing of 2020 (good riddance!). We’ll release this in early 2021 (assuming we aren’t all wiped out by a meteor before January 1st!).

Effing 2020.

A Decision Coin is a coin with sides marked “YES” or “NO” (or “LIVE” or “DIE”, etc). You throw it in the air while asking a question like, “Should I drink that fourth margarita?” and then base your actions on how the coin lands. It takes all the uncertainty out of life!

Legal Notice: Not responsible for death, injury, or inebriation resulting from living your life based on the Decision Coin.

Speaking of Alex’s attention to detail, he’s pushing the technical limits of what the coin maker can do with height maps and pressing detail. That means that unlike previous coin designs, Alex is working to take direct control over every facet of this coin’s design and manufacture. Yay!

Speaking of previous coin designs… here’s what the last coin we did looked like:

So let us know in the comments below what you think of all this Coin Madness!

And does anyone have suggestions for the text we insert around the border?

Fun With Scruffy Bumps – Crowd Design

Dear Insane Children,

Yan and Jen continue their work on the next Plushie Dreadful toy: Scruffy Bumps

And the workshop just delivered a prototype based on the last round of feedback:

Yan got the idea to include a Mini Bumps with the initial orders of the regular-size toy… so, meet Mini Bumps!

Let Yan and Jen know in the comments below what you think of this update.

Creepy enough? Cute enough?

Chamber of Anger pt. 2

Dear Insane Children,

Omri sent over an updated version of Alice’s confrontation with Inferno Alice in the Chamber of Anger. And I just had to post it because… well, it’s amazing.

Of this update Omri says:

i thought that the child is a prisoner- literally a victim so why not make it so she’s trapping herself in a sense. also i thought to merge the tentacles with the chains so it’s ONE mesh. it’s not exactly chains and not exactly tentacles but both and amorphic.

If you guys want me to render it more- no probs. OR if i still somehow got it wrong but according to the story this ought to work well.

i DO imagine that the ceiling will be closed in the Battle itself. like get in the room- the ceiling closes and when “freeing” the child from her chains it opens again and beams you up or a platform raises there whatever.

To which I replied:

This is AMAZING @Omri

Please do go ahead and render a final version.

I *love* the idea of chains as tentacles. Tentachains? Chaintcles?

And, yes, Anger traps us. Great visual metaphor.

And, Insane Children, I want to say again: THANK YOU

The sort of visual / narrative development we’re doing here on Patreon would be impossible under “normal” game development conditions. That we’re able to spend so much time working through these details and coming up with ideas… means that the final product will be rich beyond belief.

YOU are directly supporting the team of artists making all of this possible. And I hope you know that you’re bringing to life something truly unique.
