Help Me Promote the “Out of the Woods” Kickstarter

My latest twisted fairy tale project is live on Kickstarter RIGHT NOW.

“Out of the Woods” is a collection of 10 fairy tales presented as a table top card game, illustrated book, coloring book, and selection of art prints.

In 5 days we’ve already pulled in more than 50% of our funding goal, but we need YOUR help to maintain momentum and get to a strong finish.

So here are a bunch of OOTW promotion images you can share via your social media channels. Be sure to include a link to the Kickstarter page. I’ve been using bit.ly/getOOTW

Please help, because if you don’t wolves will eat us all!

“Out of the Woods” – Kickstarter, Interview, Video!

Out of the Woods” is my latest project – a selection of 10 fairy tales turned into a card game, book, and collection of art prints. I’ll launch a Kickstarter mid-July, 2017 and am busy at work getting everything ready.

Recently did an interview to discuss the project and its inspiration: HERE

Here’s a WORK IN PROGRESS trailer for the project:

New Kickstarter Coming – “Out of the Woods”

Lots of work going on behind the scenes here preparing for my next Kickstarter. Tentatively titled “Out of the Woods” – the project will present a collection of well-known fairy tales as posters, book, and card game. Here’s a concept sketch for the Rapunzel card done by one of the art groups we’re testing for the project.

For the narrative theme, I’ve recently been thinking a lot about morality and behavioral development in a world less and less influenced by religion. While I myself am an atheist, I believe important life lessons must be passed to us by some method – religion, literature, and/or caregivers. This was the original purpose of fairy-tales – to scare children into acting morally and cautiously as they matured into adults.

Could a collection of classic fairy tales with a dark (re)-presentation serve to help parents convey life lessons, warnings, and common sense to their kids? Hell, I know a few adults, myself included, who could use a reminder of those lessons!

“Out of the Woods” contains a dual meaning in this context – one, that we’re never *really* out of the woods… in life, there’s always another Big Bad Wolf hiding along our paths. And that while we’re in the woods we must be prepared for the next wolf attack. Death is probably the only escape from the woods we’ll ever encounter – so best to be prepared for a life of tests and obstacles.

The Mysterious Vorpal Wallet

I had no idea what to expect when I decided to open an online store with my girlfriend, fashion designer Yeni Zhang. We’d talked for ages about finding a way to combine our talents – her fashion and design skills with my story writing and marketing abilities. We decided on “Mysterious” – a place where people can collect unique fashion items inspired by my twisted fairy tale interpretations.

The first product we offered, The Vorpal Bag, was a huge hit with collectors around the world. In less than 2 months we saw 160 of the 200 limited edition bags vanish like a Cheshire Cat. And feedback from customers couldn’t be more positive. Here’s an example from Daniel S. in the USA:

“Just letting you know that I received my Vorpal Bag today. The packaging was great, it seems like a lot of care was taken to keep the bag in pristine shape. I thought the white box was handsome, and appreciated the canvas bag as well. All the protruding metal parts of the bag were covered so as to prevent damage, which was a nice touch.

All the stitching was perfect. I looked all through the bag with an eye towards that but couldn’t find a single problem stitch. It really speaks well towards the professional skills of the crafters that this bag came out so well. I could easily see a bag of this quality and aesthetic design being worth $300 or more. If you would, let Yeni know that I’m very pleased with the bag and I feel like it is worth more than the price I paid for it. It is obvious that it was produced with a lot of love.”

The next product we introduced was The Vorpal Wallet. Sales of this high-quality leather collectible wallet have been insane! In less than a week we’ve sold over 125 of the 200 that were produced. If you want to collect one of these limited edition wallets, you’d better move fast!

Very excited by the positive reaction we’ve had from collectors around the world. Now we’re scrambling to get more bags, wallets, and accessories designed and added to the Mysterious shop. We had no idea these first items would go so fast or that this side project would be so much fun!

What’s next? Yeni’s just put finishing touches on designs for a smaller, less expensive Vorpal Purse. We’re also working on design ideas for a line of umbrellas and scarves featuring twisted fairy tale prints. There’s also a Red Riding Hood themed “Big Teeth Bag” in the works!

We’d love to hear your feedback. What kind of items would you like to see added to Mysterious? Let us know by sending a message via the Mysterious Facebook page, or Mysterious shop page.

Crooked House iPhone Game

Crooked Screen 1

Crooked House

Spicy Pony is proud to announce the release of their second game app for iPhone: American McGee’s Crooked House. It’s a puzzle game so devious it’ll make you squeak with fright. Based on one of the best loved nursery rhymes of all time, “There Was a Crooked Man”:

There was a crooked man,
He went a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence beside a crooked stile;
He bought a crooked cat,
Which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together —
in a little crooked house.

But finally,
It was the crooked mouse,
First lost his crooked smile,
Weary of the crooked nonsense beside the crooked stile;
He shred the crooked cat,
He fled the crooked man,
And he might live forever —
If you help him in his plan.
